GLOCAL refers to the fact that on this way we need the view out of our "mind helicopter" to be twofold, as Peter Schwartz head of GBN puts it. Firstly we have to cope with global changes and enabling our psychological filters to recognize general patterns. Secondly we have to be able to look up the local details, i.e. become an expert on a specific subject in a given amount of time.
During our studies I would like to cover the following three areas as described by Fernand Braudel in his book "Civilization and Capitalism 15th-18th Century" (HarperCollins,London, 1985, paperback, ISBN 0-00-686077-X)
- The Structures of Everyday Life
- The Wheels of Commerce
- The Perspective of the World
The name GPN is given as a tribute to the excellent work done by GBN (www.gbn.org) and its president Peter Schwartz in the field of establishing a professional learning world-wide business network. Here I would like to draw your attention to the book "The Art of the Long View" (John Wily & Sons, ISBN 0-471-97785-3) written by one of the world's leading futurists, Peter Schwartz.
